The present perfect simple

Hi! I'm Samira Medellin, today we're going to take the topic: The Present Perfect Simple.

The Present Perfect Simple


Form of Present Perfect:


I / you / we / they:

Positive: I / you / we / they have said.
Negative: I / you / we / they have not said.
Question: Have I / you / we / they said.

She / He / It:

Positive: She / he / it has said.
Negative: She / he / it has not said.
Question: Has she / he / it said?

For irregular verbs we use the participle form. And for regular verbs just we add ed or d depends of the verb.

Use of Present Perfect


  • Puts emphasis on the result.
Example: She has drawn a dog.

  • Action that is still go on.
Example: The movie has not started yet.

  • Action that stopped recently.
Example: She has cooked  the breakfast.

  • Finished action that has an influence on the present.
Example: I have lost my book.

  • Action that has taken place once, never or several times before the moment of speaking.
Example: I have never been to Francia.

Signal words of Present Perfect

  • Already, ever, just, never, not yet, so far, till now, up to now.
